We are Catholic men of faith and men of charitable action. As Knights of Columbus, we can’t talk about who
we are without talking about why we do what we do. And it is for these reasons that we want to invite men to
our ranks so that they too can live out their Faith with like-minded men, working side by side to help those in most need.
Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is
no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day.
None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that - together -
we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. So we stick together ... we support one another.
Venerable Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance
to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died - often prematurely.
The Knights of Columbus are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country,
and believe in standing up for both. The Knights gave more than 75.6 million service hours in 2017, illustrating
how Catholics serve each other in fraternity and mercy.
Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus, after much study, has established a revised initiation ceremony
for entrance into The Order. The new degree work is effective now (as of January 1, 2020) and combines the
work of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degrees into one now called "Exemplification of Charity, Unity and Fraternity".
The new exemplification is open to all to attend; wives and children of candidates are especially encouraged
to witness the initiation. Our Worthy Pilot/Dexter’s Grand Knight Andy Toma held a meeting on February 13th
with our Chaplain Fr. Brendan and our Degree Team leader Joe Prochaska to discuss the new Degree Exemplification.
We will be having the first one in May, 2020 right in the sanctuary after Mass. While it is yet another change,
I do like that others can witness this and support us in this endeavor. And it is conducted in God’s House!
On April 25th, the District II 4th Degree Exemplification will be held at St. Jude’s in Dewitt (see flyer).
We will be honoring His Excellency, The Most Reverend Earl Boyea, and Bishop of Lansing at this Exemplification.
If we can get candidates signed on a Form 400 by the March meeting that would be ideal. Remember, if we don’t ask,
the chance of getting a candidate is near zero. In my mind, the 4th Degree Exemplification Ceremony is still one of
the most powerful experiences that truly helps one get rooted in the Patriotic Degree and stand tall and proud for God and Country!
The Knights of Columbus has produced a 12-episode video series inspired by the Apostolic Exhortation,
"Into the Breach" written by Bishop Olmsted of Phoenix. Each episode features a man’s personal story and
major Catholic figures such as Dr. Scott Hahn, Fr. Mike Schmitz, former NFL player Matt Birk, FOCUS founder Curtis Martin
and others who break down and explore the virtues of Catholic masculinity.
In addition (as I always do), I want to encourage you to sign up for Dynamic Catholic’s Best-Lent-Ever!
As I’ve shared through the years, this is a great way to start your day in a prayerful way and strive
to grow in holiness and virtue one day at a time. The videos and messages are powerful, yet short 5-7 minutes
to start or end your day on a prayerful "foot."
